Marrakech & Sahara
The Red Land
"Privileged are those who have had the opportunity to set foot in the Sahara and realized that, amidst its immensity, we are little more than grains of sand. There is no room for ego."
- Ceci Fontanatti -
Visiting the Sahara will be etched in your memory. It is the hottest desert in the world, stretching across 11 African countries. At over 9 million km², it is the second largest desert on the planet, second only to the frozen desert of Antarctica. The sunrise, which occurs behind the mountains that separate Morocco from Algeria, is an ancient wind blowing from a place called time. The Sahara impresses us; we are dazzled by its views, but we fail to perceive it as one of the greatest records of the earth. The past survives here and speaks to us from the vast and endless dunes of the western Sahara, from the rock, the heat, and the dry winds. It whispers to us of a history of repeated shocks and climate change. Of humanity's advance and retreat. The landscapes dazzle, but it is their soul that captivates, where they hold the secrets of lost eras. It was once a land of rivers and living forests.
The Sahara has witnessed the ebb and flow of humanity since the earliest peoples. Each dune is a chapter, and each rock a testament to resilience. It is a destination that awakens the dance of the earth and humanity. Upon setting foot in and discovering the Sahara, we finally feel a place where the eternal and the ephemeral meet.
